The disk of NGC 1796 is covered with
star-producing regions, causing the high surface
brightness over the entire image. A central bar is
present; HII-region candidates exist in it as well
as in the tightly wrapped arms.
The redshift is v_o = 771 km/s.
Overexposed center, many overexposed knots.
=ESO 119- G 30
elongated nuclear region
Easy resolution into high-surface-brightness knots (HII?)
at the 3 arcsec level.
Important for the distance scale problem
if plates can be taken in excellent seeing.
The disk has high surface brightness.
Absolute magnitude based on redshift is M(B) = -18.5 mag
RSA (Sandage and Tammann 1979).
No bright nucleus.
