This galaxy with a thin, rapidly rotating component (see Paper III) shows
enhanced Fe5015 and Fe5270S strength along this component. The H{beta} line
strength is also elevated in the central regions.

Another object with strong and misaligned emission in its outer parts, where the
gas kinematics is misaligned with respect to the stellar kinematics. Towards the
centre, however, the angular momentum of the gas quickly aligns itself behind
the stellar angular momentum and along the galaxy minor axis, suggesting the
presence of a gaseous system well settled on the galaxy equatorial plane. Also
in this case no dust is observed, although the unsharp-masked image reveals the
clear peanut-shape signature of a boxy bulge.

NGC 2549 The central high-dispersion region is elongated along the
photometric minor axis, due to the contribution of a rapidly rotating
component (see also Seifert & Scorza 1996; Simien & Prugniel 1997b;
Neistein et al. 1999), exemplified by the isovelocities pinched together
along the photometric major axis, and the correspondingly large h_3_
values.

NGC 2549 is an edge-on S0 with a well-defined inner disk of high
surface brightness (nearly burned out in this negative print) and an
intermediate-surface-brightness envelope (well seen here). A very
faint outer envelope, not visible in the print, surrounds these inner
regions.
Note again the three-zone description. This three-zone structure,
so prominent in this edge-on galaxy, would also show the three
luminosity zones if viewed from above, explaining why the three-zone
form is so well seen in many of the more-face-on S0 galaxies shown
earlier.
