Re:NGC 3423
This Sbc galaxy is also poorly known. Both the Fe5015 and Mgb indices peak in an
extended central region and decrease towards the edge of the field; the H{beta}
map presents opposite behaviour. The {tau} map (for age fixed to 10 Gyr in the
fitting procedure) displays low values over a large central area, possibly
indicating a region where the bulk of star formation happened in a quite short

Re:NGC 3423
NGC 3423.---Sd (type example---see Fig. 3i): Very close to face-on.
LSB, slightly elliptical bulge embedded in very LSB disk. There are
traces of spiral structure in the disk, but no large-scale arms. There
are also numerous star-forming knots distributed about the disk that
do not lie on any of the spiral segments.

Blobby, asymmetric radio source.

The multiple-armed spiral pattern in
NGC 3423 is similar to that in NGC 5457 (M101;
Hubble Atlas, pp. 27, 31; panel 218 here).
There are no grand design major arms; rather at
least six arms can be identified starting at the
center, existing over all position angles around
the image.
Brightest individual stars may be beginning
to resolve at about B = 21, but they are confused
on this blue plate with the numerous HII regions.
The largest of these regions have core + halo
diameters of about 2".
The redshift of NGC 3423 is v_o = 845 km/s.

Re:NGC 3423
NGC 3423
We have not detected CO(1-0) to about 1 K km/s either in the center or
elsewhere despite the presence of star forming regions in the disk. The
nuclear emission was characterized by K83 as that of a low luminosity

SA(s)cd (de Vaucouleurs), Sc+ (Holmberg)

Re:NGC 3423
Very small, bright nucleus. Several partially resolved. Filamentary
branching arms.
HII Regions:
