7 note(s) found in NED.

Re:NGC 3684
NGC 3684.---SABb: Small, elliptical bulge, threaded by a
prominent bar. Two-armed grand-design spiral pattern with
arms emerging from the major-axis ends of the bar. Arms
are fairly low contrast. There are some knots, especially on
the west arm, but the arms are fairly smooth. Both arms can
be traced through ~300deg before the fade into the sky.

Re:NGC 3684
NGC 3684. - This H II nucleus had no radio source detected, either
on the untapered or on the tapered maps, but NVSS detected a 15.9 mJy
source. The radio emission of NGC 3684 must be diffuse.
We do, however, detect a partially resolved 18.1 mJy background
source, 3' to the southwest, which APM identifies with a 19.5 mag
stellar-like object. Further identification is still lacking.

NGC 3684 is the center of a small group of
seven confirmed members (based on similarity of
redshifts). The number of candidate group
members is as high as 15. Many of the fainter
candidates are dwarf Sm and Im morphological
types.
The confirmed group members listed in the
RSA are NGC 3681 (SBb; panel 164; v_o = 1135 km/s),
NGC 3686 (SBbc; panel 209; v_o = 1034 km/s),
and NGC 3691 (Scd; panel 317; v_o = 947 km/s).
Other members that have 21-cm redshifts
are listed in Hoffman et al. (1987). The
mean redshift of the seven confirmed group
members is = 1021 km/s.
The group is more compact than the Local
Group. The members are within 1^deg^ of each other,
a linear diameter of 356 kpc (about one-third the
size of the Local Group).
The three images of NGC 3684 on the
opposite page have been made from a single original
du Pont 100-inch plate taken at Las Campanas
but printed to different densities to show the
inside spiral pattern [(s) type] and the
very-low-surface brightness outer-arm structure,
which has at times been called a fossil-arm pattern.
