Re:NGC 4157
NGC 4157. This galaxy, a member of LGG 258 (Garcia 1993), is a
nondetection in our data. Lower resolution 20 cm images can be found in
Condon 1983, Gioia & Fabbiano 1987, Hummel & van der Hulst 1989, and
Paper I, and they show a somewhat asymmetric distribution with higher
intensities on the southwest major axis. A global equipartition field
strength of 3.26 x 10^-6^ G was derived by Fitt & Alexander (1993). An
HST UV image shows no obvious emission, though a small flux is recorded
by Maoz et al. (1996). Short H I observations, providing global
profiles and position/velocity plots, can be found in Rhee & van Albada
(1996). Our 3{sigma} upper limit corresponds to a radio luminosity of
2 x 10^18^ W Hz^-1^, which is lower than the median radio luminosity of
the supernova remnants in M82. Thus, if supernova remnants exist, they
must have comparatively low luminosities.

Bright center partially obscured by a dark lane on one side. Several knotty,
filamentary arms. Very poorly resolved.
