This galaxy exhibits ionized gas counter-rotating with respect to the stars (see
Paper V). The Mg b contours are more elongated in the direction of the rotation
than the isophotes. This effect is less prominent in the iron maps. The H{beta}
map appears relatively flat with a hint of weaker H{beta} absorption along the
major axis.

Another galaxy showing an integral-shape pattern in ionized-gas distribution,
along which the emission is stronger on the western side of the galaxy ~10
arcsec from the centre, and on the eastern side beyond 15 arcsec. As in NGC 4262
and 4278, we observe a strong twisting of the gas kinematics, and an asymmetric
distribution for the central {sigma}_gas_ values and for the [O III]/H{beta}
ratios. The gaseous and stellar motions are strongly decoupled, with almost
opposite angular momenta (Galletta 1987). Absorption features are found only
close to the centre.

rotation pattern (Bettoni & Galletta 1997), anticorrelated with h_3_.

This galaxy is classified as an SB0 object. Galletta (1987) and Bettoni et al.
(1991) put in evidence ionized gas in this object counter rotating with respect
to the stars. We confirm this counter rotation and put constraints on the shape
of this object. Viewing angles show that gaseous disks can lie in the ZY plane.

The deviation from elliptical symmetry is so
subtle in NGC 4546 that the galaxy is very close
to an SB0 prototype. But there is a slight break
in the luminosity pattern in the upper-left disk
region just beyond the edge of the bulge in the
print here. The central bulge, burned out in this
print, is elongated in a nearly vertical direction
in this print, inclined at an angle of about 75 deg to
the major axis of the outer disk, which is well
seen here. The inclination of the bulge to the disk
in this way defines the bar in the SB0_1_ subtype.
