NGC 4551: this galaxy, one of the members of the Virgo cluster, presents a
power-law inner profile (Faber et al. 1997; Lauer et al. 2005). A central
decrease in the velocity dispersion has been also found (Halliday et al. 2001).

VCC 1630 (NGC 4551).From the individual images, in the very innermost region, it
is barely possible to make out the presence of a faint stellar disk, possibly
flaring out at the edges. This is reflected in the abrupt change of the A4 and
B4 coefficients in the inner 0.1". There is a clear resolved nucleus.

A12 NGC 4551
NGC 4551 is a member of the Virgo cluster and has an uncertain
classification as elliptical in RC3. Our kinematic measurements are
presented in Fig. A13. This galaxy was studied by both, P90 and L95. The
photometric measurements of L95 found NGC 4551 to have 'discy' isophotes
for 1 arcsec <~ |r| <~ 4 arcsec. As for NGC 4387, L95 have postulated that
NGC 4551 may contain a central stellar nucleus. P90 measure NGC 4551 to
become increasingly 'boxy' from r ~ 4 arcsec to r ~ 10 arcsec, and at
greater radii a_4_ tends to zero.
For the major axis h_3_ is non-zero for |r| <~ 5 arcsec. h_4_ shows
non-zero values close to the galaxy centre. For the minor axis h_4_ changes
only slightly with radius and is almost consistent with a value of zero.
Rotation is measured for the major axis and no rotation is detected for
the minor axis. A small central decrease in {sigma} is clearly observed
for the minor axis. For the major axis this effect is less pronounced.
The dip in central velocity dispersion and the measured LOSVD asymmetry for
|r| <~ 5 arcsec along the major axis may be consistent with the detection
of a distinct central component of orbital motion across the line of sight.

Re:NGC 4551
7: NGC 4550/1 (S0/E). Arecibo reported less than 1 Jy km s^-1^ while Green
Bank reported 9.03 Jy km s^-1^ for NGC 4550. Arecibo reported 0.13 Jy km s^-1^
for NGC 4551. We detect nothing for either galaxy down to a flux density of
<~1.5 mJy.

NGC 4551: This small galaxy has all geometrical and photometric
characteristics of other probable companions to massive objects: see
NGC 3605, 4478, and also 4387 according to NB89.
