Re:NGC 4750
NGC 4750: Suggested as double-barred by Laine et al. (2002). Inspection of
NICMOS2 images show a clear, strong nuclear bar; however, the presence of the
outer bar is much less certain. Optical images (including WFPC2 F606W) are too
dusty to be useful. 2MASS near-IR images show an elliptical region corresponding
to the a = 14" outer bar of Laine et al.; however, unsharp masking shows that at
least part of this structure is a tightly wrapped spiral/pseudo-ring.
Higher-resolution and higher S/N near-IR images are needed to determine if a bar
is present in addition to the spirals, and to properly measure its size and
orientation.

Red (dust) spiral features down to center (strongest northeast of it)

Re:NGC 4750
NGC 4750.--Broad H{alpha} emission definitely exists in this LINER. The
high-S/N spectrum reveals faint wings extending well beyond the intrinsic
profile of [N II] (Fig. 13g). The narrow-line profile obtained from [S II]
looks very symmetric.

All galaxies on the facing page form a special subgroup,
in which the spiral pattern emerges tangent to what appears
to be an external ring rather than from the nucleus.
The ring in NGC 4750 appears to be completely detached from
the central nucleus and lens. It is probably composed of
two overlapping spiral fragments wound so tightly as
nearly to overlap. A very faint external pattern is present,
which is shown, but to poor advantage, by the insert,
taken with the 48-inch Schmidt.
