Notes for object NGC 4781

8 note(s) found in NED.

Re:NGC 4781
NGC 4781.---SBdm: Small, faint bulge. A small bar is oriented nearly
E-W. Very ratty, patchy, open spiral arms emerge from the ends of the
bar. The disk has a P.A. skewed about 30deg south of E-W
(significantly different than that of the bar).

Re:NGC 4781
FGC 1519: The feature seen in our spectrum at V_h_=1262 km s^-1^ appears
to be due to NGC 4781, an Sd spiral 19.4' away (Richter & Huchtmeier
1987). An additional marginal feature is also seen near the edge of our
bandpass with V_h_ >=5261 km s^-1^, W_20_ >=102 km s^-1^ and
S >=0.62 Jy km s^-1^.

Re:NGC 4781
NGC 4781 (SBd, 1"~77 pc, I=67.9^deg^)
No clear twist is found inside the large-scale bar (
e_max_=0.56 at a=6.3", PA=90^deg^). arms are responsible for features in the
profile at larger distances.

NGC 4781 (v_o = 689 km/s) is in a complex
field where, within a radius of about 1^deg^, are
NGC 4742 (E4; panel 10; v_o = 1114 km/s), NGC 4760
(S0; panel 30; v_o = 4451 km/s),and NGC 4790
(Scd; panel 315; v_o = 1154 km/s). NGC 4742
and NGC 4790 may be kinematically
related to NGC 4781, although a spread in redshift
larger than 400 km/s is relatively rare. (See the
later comment on resolution of the stellar content
in the description of NGC 4790 on panel 315, in
the Scd section.)
Also in the field are a number of partially
resolved late-type dwarf galaxies (Sm and Im
types) which may be related to NGC 4781.
The surface brightness of the thick spiral
fragments that cover the disk is high. HII regions
exist, and a few brightest stars may begin to
resolve out of the background at about B = 21.5.

Re:NGC 4781
= Holm 483a
Short, bright, narrow bar: 0.5 arcmin x 0.1 arcmin. Several knotty,
filamentary arms. Asymmetric.
Non-interacting pair with NGC 4784 at 5.7 arcmin.
NGC 4790 is at 18.5 arcmin.
Helwan and Lund 9 dimensions are for the bright part only.

Re:NGC 4781
A moderately bright spiral 3' x 1' in p.a. 110^deg^; quite irregular and patchy;
no nucleus. 15 s.n.
