Re:NGC 5793
7. IRAS 14566-1629 (NGC 5793) has an Sb classification (NED) and is one
of a pair of galaxies. VLBI observations of this source have detected a
compact nucleus (0.016") that is extended parallel to the minor axis of
the galaxy (Gardner et al. 1992). There is also some evidence for a water
maser with a diameter larger than 20 pc (Hagiwara et al. 1997), and it
was recently classified as a Seyfert 2 galaxy by both us and Baan et al.
(1998). IRAS 14566-1629 exhibits the largest radio excess of the galaxies
in our sample, with a radio luminosity at 4.8 GHz more than 30 times that
expected from the FIR luminosity, and the brightest compact core (266 mJy).
This core accounts for 30% of the observed radio flux.
