NGC 5885 is a beautifully symmetric
barred spiral, similar to but not quite as regular
as its ScI counterpart NGC 1232 (Sc; panels
216, S13), or more closely similar to NGC 3184
(Sc; panels 237, S5) or IC 5332 (Sc; panel 259).
The bar is short. The two principal inner
arms spring from the ends of the bar, as in
NGC 1300 (SBb; panels 154, S8). They then branch
into the thick multiple-armed structure in the
Many HII regions exist, defining the centers
of the luminous arms. The regions are unresolved
at the 0.7" level. The redshift of NGC 5885 is
v_o = 1879 km/s.

Small, bright nucleus. Very faint bar. (r): 0.55 arcmin x 0.1 arcmin.
Several filamentary, branching arms.
HA 88, 2 dimensions (2.0 arcmin x 2.0 arcmin, after Helwan 30) are for the
bright part only. Lund 10 dimensions (3.7 arcmin x 4.0 arcmin) may be a
misprint for 3.7 arcmin x 3.0 arcmin.
