NGC 5916 is not in the RSA. It forms a
triplet with NGC 5915 [SBbc(s) pec], which is
4.8' northwest of NGC 5916, and with NGC
5916A (Sab?) at 7', also to the northwest.
Both NGC 5915 (panel 212) and NGC
5916 are slightly abnormal. NGC 5915 shows
robust star formation in its center (many bright
knots) and an amorphous luminous envelope
similar to that in NCG 4449 (SmIV; panels 326,
S6), where robust star formation is also
occurring.
NGC 5916 is classed here as Sa peculiar,
based on the smooth arms, the very small
nucleus, and the outer (tidal?) plume.
The redshift of NGC 5915 is v_o = 2146 km/s,
giving a redshift distance of 43 Mpc. If NGC
5916 and NGC 5915 are at the same distance,
their projected linear separation is small, at 60
kpc, showing that tidal interaction is a
possibility. The robust star formation in NGC 5915
and the tidal plume in NGC 5916 would be the
result.

Triplet? [with NGC 5915 and NGC 5916A]

Based on the near equality of their v_o
redshifts, 2146 km/s and 2165 km/s, NGC 5915
and NGC 5916 (panel 81) form an obvious
physical pair. The group may be a triplet formed
also with NGC 5916A, but the redshift of this
galaxy is presently (1990) unknown.
At the mean redshift distance of 43 Mpc
(H = 50), the projected linear separations of both
NGC 5916 and NGC 5916A from NGC 5915
are small at 59 kpc.
The morphologies of both NGC 5915 and
NGC 5916 appear disturbed, presumably due to
tidal interaction. Note that the form of
NGC 5916 (Sa) is similar to that of NGC 3281
(Sa; panel 65) in the Antlia Cluster.

Re:MCG -02-39-020
Member of a group including MCG -02-39-018 and MCG -02-39-019
Both MCG -02-39-019 and MCG -02-39-020 are deformed, with
{rho} = 4.6 arcmin.
A very long arm stretches towards MCG -02-39-019,
so that it becomes an interacting system,
MCG -02-39-020 itself possibly consists of two galaxies in contact
Type:

Re:NGC 5916
Very small, very bright nucleus. Weak bar obscured by a dark lane. Pseudo
(r): 0.55 arcmin x 0.2 arcmin. 2 main, smooth arms. Faint outer whorls.
Distorted by interaction with NGC 5915.
Heidelberg Veroff. Vol. 9, 1926 and Helwan 38 dimensions are for the bright
part only.
Interacting pair with NGC 5915 at 4.8 arcmin.
