obscured in the NE direction, although no gas is observed in this case.

IC 4797 is the brightest galaxy in a group
of about five members in a linear chain containing
NGC 6707, NGC 6708, IC 4796, IC 4797,
and HA 85-2 (= A 1854-54), all with similar
redshifts averaging = 2653 km/s.
The classification feature that determines
the mixed type of IC 4797 is the extended
envelope, seen well in the print here.
