Re:IRAS 23157-0441
IRAS 23157-0441 (NGC 7592).---This system is a known interacting pair
(Vorontsov-Velyaminov & Arhipova 1963) and has been studied in detail
by Rafanelli & Marziani (1992). Our red continuum image shows tidal
tails and two nuclei separated by ~13". The H{alpha} emission in NGC
7592 is concentrated in the two nuclei and a third emission region
~10" to the south of both nuclei. This third region is very faint in
the red continuum image and is likely to be a site of strong current
star formation. In a previous study, we obtained spectra for two
objects in this galaxy separated by ~12.5" along a PA of -79deg to the
north. From our images, it is clear that these objects most likely
correspond to the two nuclei observed along the east-west axis. Object
1 is classed as an AGN (Sy2) and object 2 is classed as a starburst.
Our results confirmed those of Rafanelli & Marziani (1992), who
conclude that NGC 7592 contains both starburst and Seyfert activity.

Interacting pair in contact with two wide tails. The brightness of
the components is equal. The dimensions of the whole system is given.
