Re:NGC 7723
NGC 7723.---SB(r)ab: Bright, symmetric nucleus, embedded in a boxy
bulge, and threaded by a thin HSB bar. Bar emerges from opposite
corners of the boxy bulge. Bar terminates abruptly, and arms emerge to
form an inner pseudoring. Arm structure is very complex. One arm
emerges from the SW end of the bar, with an opening angle of ~45deg,
and winds to the NE. It is well defined for ~90deg and then becomes fat
and diffuse. The pitch angle increases at this point. This arm fades
into the general disk after winding for ~180deg. The arm associated
with the NE end of the bar does not begin at the bar. Instead, it
begins as a diffuse feature ~60deg NW of the bar end and brightens
until it reaches the bar end. It then bifurcates. The inner
(generally higher surface brightness) portion forms the SW part of
the pseudoring. This inner portion bifurcates again after winding
~120deg from the bar end. Once again, the inner portion forms the
pseudoring. And after this second bifurcation the inner arm brightens,
before fading and diffusing into the general disk. After both
bifurcations, the outer arms are very diffuse, LSB features that wind
for ~90deg before fading. There are no obvious star-forming knots.

NGC 7723 forms a pair with NGC 7727 (Sa pec;
panel 83) that is about 40' northwest. The
redshifts are v_o(7723) = 1976 km/s and
v_o(7727) = 1973 km/s. The projected linear
separation of the pair is 460 kpc using a redshift
distance of 39 Mpc (H = 50).
The characteristic straight dust lanes exist
on the outside of the smooth bar in the direction
leading the rotation. The lane on one side is
smooth; on the other it is slightly broken. The
internal ring from which the MAS spiral pattern
begins is almost complete.

Re:NGC 7723
Small, very bright nucleus in a bright bar: 0.6 arcmin x 0.03 arcmin. (r):
0.75 arcmin x 0.5 arcmin. Many knotty arms. Pseudo (R): 2.4 arcmin x
1.6 arcmin. Similar to NGC 6300.

part only.

Re:NGC 7723
HMS Note No. 224
Weak spectrum of semi-stellar nucleus that shows broad and faint
absorption lines, with a very faint {lambda} 3727.
HMS Note No. 225
Slit on nucleus and faint central bar.
Only blended Ca H + H{epsilon} and K measured in the nucleus.
HMS Note No. 226
Slit on major axis as estimated from elliptical outline of faint
outer parts of spiral.
Nebular spectrum of faint absorption lines and {lambda} 3727 confused
with strong night-sky spectrum that least affects H + H{epsilon},
which appears to be slightly inclined.

Re:NGC 7723
