Re:VCC 1297
VCC 1297 (NGC 4486B). Lauer et al. 1996 identified a double nucleus, separated
by 12 pc (0.15"), based on deconvolved WFPC2 images of this galaxy. The two
nuclei are not immediately apparent in the ACS images, although the galaxy is
quite disky within the inner 100 pc, with this trend persisting all the way to
the center, and the profile is slightly asymmetric in the inner 40 pc. Beyond
about 10", the surface brightness profile is clearly truncated by interaction
with M87, which projects only 7.3" away.

Re:VCC 1297
VCC 1297/NGC 4486B. This compact elliptical galaxy is similar to M32 in
appearance, and is only 7.3' away from M87. Some or all of its GCs may in fact
belong to the M87 GC system, and its current size and luminosity may be the
result of significant tidal stripping.

Re:NGC 4486B
NGC 4594 (Kormendy et al. 1996b), NGC 4486B (Kormendy et al. 1997),
NGC 4350 (Pignatelli, Salucci, & Danese 2001), NGC 3031 = M81, and
NGC 3998 (Bower et al. 2000) exhibit strong evidence from stellar
dynamics for a black hole but do not yet have three-integral dynamical
models.

Re:NGC 4486B
NGC 4486B is a close companion of M 87 and is in some respects
comparable to M 32, the compact companion of M 31. There is an HST
SB-profile available from Lauer et al. (1995) to which ground-based data
from Prugniel (1997) were added after shifting by 0.6 mag.

Re:NGC 4486B
Small, very bright, sharp outline.
Non-interacting pair with NGC 4486 at 7.3 arcmin.
The (U-B)-(B-V) relation may be peculiar; see Ap. J., Suppl., No.48, 1961.
