Re:NGC 4517
NGC 4517 (also denoted NGC 4437), which is paired with NGC 4517A,
is a member of the galaxy group LGG-292 (Garcia 1993). It is a
nondetection in these observations and the only galaxy in the sample for
which we find no evidence for extraplanar radio continuum emission
(Paper I). NGC 4517 has the largest angular size in the sample (10.5'),
and a number of discrete, distributed components are visible at lower
resolution. A previous radio continuum image is also available in Condon
(1987). Our 3{sigma} upper limit is approximately the median luminosity
of the radio supernova remnants in M82. Two detected point sources near
the galaxy at positions, R.A. (J2000.0) = 12^h^32^m^50.1^s^, declination
(J2000.0) = 00^deg^08'31", and R.A. (J2000.0) = 12^h^32^m^48.9^s^,
declination (J2000.0) = 00^deg^07'46" are presumably background sources.
For a FIR image, see Alton et al. (1998).

Re:NGC 4517
= NGC 4437
Bright in center, no nucleus visible. Complex structure with many dark lanes.
Non-interacting pair with NGC 4517A at 17 arcmin.
Note error in HA 88,2 coordinates; NGC is correct.

Re:NGC 4517
HMS Note No. 138
Slit on two emission patches on north side of central part of dark lane.
Brighter and preceding of two.
HMS Note No. 139
Fainter and following of two.
A bright foreground star is 20 arcsec [north-west] of this patch.
{lambda} 3727 may be faintly present, and slightly inclined,
across full length of slit.

Re:NGC 4517
10' x 1' in p.a. 84^deg^. Rather faint; an eilgewise spiral with an iJ,regular
dark lane down the middle. See Abs. Eff. 17 s.n.
