NGC 1344.-Models to data comparison seems to point out a Z >~ 0.01, t > 5 Gyr
stellar system. Also, for this galaxy all the models predict that the observed
trend of SBF and color could be explained by an age gradient along the radius,
with the inner regions being older than the outer ones. In fact, for this galaxy
we find {alpha} = {delta}M^bar^_I/{delta}(V-I)_0_ = 2.8 +/- 0.3 and all models
predict {alpha} = {delta}M^bar^_I_/{delta}(V_I)_0_ 3.5 in this metallicity
regime. As in the case of NGC 1316, this galaxy shows indications of a recent
merger activity (Carter et al. 1982), which could possibly be related to the
observed age gradient.

An extension of the envelope in NGC 1344
is more subtle here than in NGC 4914, above,
yet the luminosity profile has a shallower cutoff
to the eye than in pure E galaxies. A representation
of the form would be an Oemler (1976)
modified Hubble (1930) profile where the ratio
of the Oemler envelope to core radius (his alpha
and beta parameters) is larger than in more-compact
E galaxies.
