NGC 1437 is listed as a member in the
Fornax Cluster Catalog (Ferguson 1989). It is
located about 1^deg^ southeast of the center
(nominally at the position of NGC 1399). Its
redshift is v_o = 1067 km/s. The adopted mean
redshift of the Fornax Cluster is = 1366 km/s
(Ferguson and Sandage 1990).
The Fornax Cluster is 0.2 mag more distant
than the Virgo Cluster (Ferguson and Sandage
1988, Sandage and Tammann 1990) and therefore
has a distance modulus near m - M = 32.
Resolution of NGC 1437 into individual stars
occurs about half a magnitude above the plate
limit of this image (B = 23) made with the Las
Campanas du Pont 100-inch reflector; therefore
the absolute magnitude of these brightest stars is
about M_B_ = -9.5. The several HII-region
candidates are unresolved at the 1" level.
