1988A&A...203..237H H I observations of galaxies in the Kraan-Korteweg-Tammann catalogue of nearby galaxies III. Global parameters of the galaxies W.K. Huchtmeier and O.-G. Global parameters for 146 galaxies in a nearly complete sample of nearby galaxies with v_0_ <= 500 km s^-1^ are derived from H I observations. Relations among global parameters, like, e.g. morphological type, absolute magnitude, and corrected 21 cm line width are discussed. The Tully-Fisher relation (M^0,i^_B_T__ vs. log {DELTA}v_0,i_ (for this sample turns out to be very similar to the solution from the calibrating sample of 130 galaxies. Other relations providing distance information are discussed as well. The parameters representing total mass are involved in the tightest correlations found in this study. The total mass, the H I mass, and the blue luminosity are all approximately proportional to the disk surface area. The mass-to-light ratio is practically independent of morphological type. Likewise, the pseudo H I surface brightness can be represented by a constant value for all galaxies with types later than Sc. Key words: galaxies - H I observations - global properties
