1989A&A...217...79T Supernovae in Markarian galaxies M. Turatto, E. Cappellaro and A. R. Petrosian Astronomical Observatory of Padova, vicolo dell'Osservatorio, 5, I-35122 Padova, Italy Astronomical Observatory of Byurakan, Armenia, USSR Received October 4, accepted December 12, 1988 Summary. Up to August 1988, 12 supernovae have been discoved in Markarian galaxies. All of them are discussed individually through a critical analysis of available material and, for some objects, previously unpublished photometric observations have derived from the plate archives of the Asiago Observatory. The frequency of SNe in a sample of Markarian galaxies has been estimate on the material of the Asiago SN Search. It is shown that the frequency of SNe in the extranuclear region of these galaxies, i.e. where the searches succeed in discovery SNe, does not differ significantly from the corresponding value relative of normal galaxies, thus excluding that Markarian galaxies belong to the class of SN fast producers. In addition, the radial distributions of SNe inside the Markarian and normal spiral galaxies result similar, with a slight indication for SNe in Markarians to explode closer to the nuclear regions. Therefore, extranuclear regions of Markarian and normal galaxies of the same morphological type have similar stellar population, at least as far as concerns the SN progenitors. Key words: supernovae and supernova remnants: general - supernovae and supernova remnants - active galaxies - galaxies: stellar content of
