BERTOTTI Department of Astronomy, University of Trieste; and Center for Advanced Research in Space Optics, Trieste, Italy Received 1989 April 24; accepted 1989 August 29 ABSTRACT We have examined the radio properties of a sample of 69 bright (B^0^_T_ <= 13.5), spectroscopically selected Seyfert galaxies, which suffers from little bias toward Markarian galaxies with strong ultraviolet excess. At variance with most of the earlier results, generally based on galaxy samples which are strongly biased toward the inclusion of Markarian objects, we have found no clear evidence of a significant difference in the major radio properties (radio power, radio-to-optical luminosity ratio, radio spectral index, radio size) of type 1 and type 2 Seyferts. The resulting observational scenario appears now to be more consistent than before with the idea that Seyfert 2 galaxies are simply Seyfert 1 obscured objects. Furthermore, taking the interaction class IAC assigned by Dahari as an index of the interaction strength, we have found good evidence that the most interacting Seyferts have enhanced radio emission, in agreement with the general tendency shown by wide samples of normal spiral galaxies.
