NED Abstract

Copyright by Royal Astronomical Society. 1990MNRAS.245..577P Mass decomposition of spiral galaxies from disc kinematics Massimo Persic Osservatorio Astronomico di Trieste, via G. B. Tiepolo 11, I-34131 Trieste Italy and Paolo Salucci Physics Department, University of Durham, Durham DHI 3LE Accepted 1990 January 31. Received 1990 January 2; in original form 1989 October 24 SUMMARY We devise a method for the disc/halo mass decomposition of the rotation curves of spiral galaxies that was outlined by us in a previous paper. Upon application to a larger sample of 58 spirals, we confirm our earlier results. In particular, we find that the disc-to-halo mass ratio at the optical radius, M_disc_/M_halo_, is a strong function of luminosity, M_disc_/M_halo_ is proportional to L^2/3^_B_.
