1991ApJ...374L..17F CONTINUUM EMISSION AT 1 MILLIMETER FROM THE ELLIPTICAL GALAXY NGC 205 MICHELL FICH Guelph-Waterloo Program for Graduate Work in Physics, Physics Department, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada N2G 3L1 AND PAUL HODGE Astronomy Department, FM-20, University of Washington, Seattle, WA 98195 Received 1991 March 11; accepted 1991 April 1 ABSTRACT The nucleus of NGC 205 has been detected in the continuum at 1.1 mm with a flux of 21 +/- 5 mJy within the central 18" of the galaxy. This is the first detection of thermal emission from dust grains at millimeter wavelengths from an elliptical galaxy. Combining this measurement with IRAS and optical fluxes suggests that the dust temperature lies between 19 and 26 K and the dust mass between 1 and 3 x 10^3^M_sun_.
