Cutitul de Argint 5,75212 Bucharest 28, Romania Received July 16; accepted August 28,1992 Abstract. - The velocity data of Virgo cluster galaxies are updated and the kinematic structure of the Virgo cluster is reconsidered. New (previously unknown) velocities are given for 144 galaxies listed in the Virgo Cluster Catalog (VCC). Improved velocities are given for another 131 VCC galaxies. A new attempt is made to disentangle the Virgo cluster from its surrounding clouds of galaxies (W, W',M, Southern Extension). We list the likely members of each of these clouds. The velocity distribution of dwarf elliptical cluster members is found to be highly asymmetric. We interpret this phenomenon as evidence for the imminent merging of two subclusters in the core region, pointing again to the dynamical youth of the Virgo cluster. Our new estimate of the mean heliocentric velocity of the Virgo cluster is <v_sun_>VC = 1050+/-35km s^-1^. This is ~50km s^-1^ lower than the values used before. If the cosmic recession velocity of the Virgo cluster is determined independently, the Virgocentric infall velocity of the Local Group will become higher by the same difference.
