NED Abstract

Copyright by Astronomical Society of Japan. 1993PASJ...45..497T Continuous Changes in the Positions and Flux Densities of Quasars Observed in CDP VLBI Experiments during 1984-1988 Yukio TAKAHASHI and Noriyuki KURIHARA Kashima Space Research Center, Communications Research Laboratory, 893-1 Hirai, Kashima, Ibaraki 314 (Received 1992 November 27; accepted 1993 February 18) Abstract The Kashima station in Japan has participated in many regular VLBI experiments of the Crustal Dynamics Project (CDP) since 1984. These experiments have provided data concerning extra-galactic sources, such as the source positions, correlated flux density, and source structure. Although the celestial reference frame defined by the positions of the extra-galactic sources is considered to be essentially fixed, changes in the position of some quasars (3C 273B, 3C 345, 3C 454.3, 4C 39.25, and OJ 287) were observed during our experiments. We estimated the effect of the known structure changes on the effective positions, and found them to be largely in agreement with the changes based on our data. The changes in the flux density of the region within 1 mas for some of the quasars during 1984-1988 were observed in the CDP VLBI experiments. Continuous monitoring of the flux densities of compact features in these objects is valuable for studying the evolution of VLBI-scale jets. Key words: Flux Density - Position - Quasars - Radio sources - VLBI
