Longo Dipartimento di Astronomia, Universita di Padova, Vicolo dell'Osservatorio 5,I-35122 Padova, Italy Osservatorio Astronomico di Capodimonte, via Moiariello 16,1-80131 Napoli, Italy Received 1 March 1994/Accepted 12 April 1994 Abstract. In the (log R_e_, {mu}_e_) plane defined by the logarithm of the effective radius and the effective surface brightness, elliptical galaxies that are members of Hickson's compact groups turn out to belong to the bright family, thus suggesting that most of them have likely experienced substantial secondary evolution. Key words: galaxies: elliptical and lenticular, cD - galaxies: fundamental parameters - galaxies: photometry
