Lyutyi Sternberg Astronomical Institute, Universitetski, pr 13, Moscow, 119899 Russia Received March 2, 1994; in final form, April 25, 1994 Abstract - A two-component model for a variable source with a constant component is considered. Such a model is commonly used to photometrically analyze the radiation from objects with active nuclei. The inference is substantiated that the linear correlation between the fluxes from a combined source in two spectral bands is generally not a sufficient condition for the color indices of the variable component to be constant, contrary to popular belief.
