Sil'chenko Sternberg State Astronomical Institute, Universitetskii pr 13, Moscow, 119899 Russia Received August 23, 1994; in final form December l2, 1994 Abstract - The results of observations of the elliptical galaxy NGC 1052 with the 6-m telescope together with the Multi-Aperture Spectrophotometer are presented. Maps of the 11.5" x 14" central region of the galaxy in the green continuum, in the [O III] {lambda}5007 emission line, and in the line-of-sight velocity of the ionized gas are obtained, as well as radial variations of the absorption lines MgI {lambda}5175, FeI {lambda}5270, and H{beta}. The very central part of NGC 1052 within a radius of 3" - 4" is found to be distinguished by its metallicity: the metallicity jumps between the "nucleus" and the main body of the galaxy by a factor of at least 4.
