We detected very weak CO line emission in the optical bar and marginally at the center. The surface density of molecular gas derived using the Galactic conversion factor N(H_2_)/I_CO_ = 2.6 x 10^20^ is only 8.4 M_sun_ pc^-2^, correcting for the inclination of the galaxy even in the center. The central surface density of molecular gas and the M(H_2_)/M(H I) ratio indicate that Dwingeloo 1 is a molecular gas-poor galaxy. Key words: Galaxies: individual (Dwingeloo 1) - Galaxies: spiral - Interstellar: molecules
