1997ApJ...477..623S A Comparison of Radio Axis with Host Galaxy Plane Axis in Seyfert Galaxies HENRIQUE R. SCHMITT, ANNE L. KINNEY, THAISA STORCHI-BERGMANN, AND ROBERT ANTONUCCI Received 1996 July 23; accepted 1996 October 4 ABSTRACT We use the radio axis as an indicator of the orientation of the obscuring torus in Seyfert galaxies and analyze the difference between the position angles of extended radio structures and host galaxy major axis of Seyfert 1 and Seyfert 2 galaxies. We find that Seyfert 1's are less likely to have extended radio structures along the host galaxy major axis while Seyfert 2's have these structures distributed in most directions. We also find a zone of avoidance in the distribution of position angles: both Seyfert 1's and Seyfert 2's seem to avoid close alignment between the radio axis and the host galaxy plane axis. These results are analyzed from the point of view of a model in which Seyfert 1's have their obscuring torus axis aligned preferentially along the host galaxy disk axis and Seyfert 2's have their torus axis lying at an intermediate angle between the galaxy disk and its axis. Schmitt, Anne L. Kinney, Thaisa Storchi-Bergmann, & Robert Antonucci (ApJ, 477, 623 [1997]), there are errors in Table 1 and Figure 6, and there is a reference to a previous work that should be stated. With respect to the latter, the authors compare the position angle of small-scale radio structures in Seyfert galaxies with the position angle of their host galaxy major axis. In their analysis they find a zone of avoidance, where the small-scale radio axis avoids close alignment with the host galaxy minor axis. The authors wish to note that J. S. Ulvestad and A. S. Wilson (ApJ, 285, 439 [1984]) already observed a paucity of radio structures aligned with the host galaxy minor axis in Seyfert 2 galaxies, although on a smaller sample. Ulvestad & Wilson was referenced in their paper as Ulvestad & Wilson (1984b). In Table 1 there were errors in the references listed in the note to the table. A new version of Table 1 with correct references is given here, and the following reference entries should be added to the reference list of the original paper: See Journal. Figure 6a was printed twice, once correctly and once incorrectly in place of Figure 6c. The correct version of Figure 6c appears below. See Journal.
