2005A&A...431..517K The great disk of Milky-Way satellites and cosmological sub-structures P. Kroupa, C. Theis and C. M. Boily Received 20 April 2004 / Accepted 13 October 2004 We show that the shape of the observed distribution of Milky Way (MW) satellites is inconsistent with their being drawn from a cosmological sub-structure population with a confidence of 99.5 per cent. Most of the MW satellites therefore cannot be related to dark-matter dominated satellites. Keywords: Galaxy: evolution, Galaxy: halo, galaxies: dwarf, galaxies: kinematics and dynamics, galaxies: Local Group, Galaxy: formation
