FIG. 23. The left panel of each figure gives contours of total intensity.
Contours are logarithmic with a ratio of sqrt(2) between levels, i.e., levels
 are at +/- C_0_ (1, sqrt(2), 2, 2sqrt(2), 4, ...). Negative contours are
dashed. The value of C_0_ is given in esch panel and is about three times the
rms noise level. A cross marks the optical identification; the size of the
cross gives the 1 sigma uncertainty in position for the sources observed in A
configuration, and the 3 sigma uncertainty for the rest. A hatched circle
indicates the FWHM restoring beam; see Table 2 for exact values of the
beamwidths. The right panel gives the polarization data, represented as
"vectors" superposed on contours of total intensity. The vectors are aligned
with the E field at 1477 MHz, except for 3C382, 386, and 457, for which the
effective frequency is 1502 MHz (see text). Lengths are proportional to degree
of polarization. Each figure includes a scalebar indicating 100 per cent
polarization. Contours are logarithmic with a ratio of 3 between contours; the
C_0_ contour is the same as in the left-hand panel.
