NGC 1087. - This galaxy is listed by Holmberg (1964) as being in the NGC 1068 group and having a distance modulus of 31. The nucleus is nearly stellar and is the northern end of a "bar" of four bright objects visible in the lambda6607 photograph. As noted by Sandage (1961), the multiple spiral structure is defined by the dust lanes. The remarkable asymmetry of the distribution of HII regions gives no evidence of a spiral pattern.
