NGC 7741. - Sandage (1961) notes that the bar is almost completely resolved into knots and that dust patches rather than lanes are associated with the bar. He also notes the dust lanes on the inside of the spiral arms.

The red photographs in this catalog show the bar but it is difficult to define the exact position of the nucleus. A cross is marked on the drawing and indicates the brightest knot of the central part of the bar but it is somewhat off-center. The dust patches in the central region define a spiral pattern rather than the usual linear one along the bar. The dust associated with the outer spiral arms is not clearly defined but appears to be distributed in broad lanes, as in the HII regions.

The author wishes to express her thanks to Mark Hanna and Carol Gregory for their assistance in preparation of the photographs. The University of Arizona 2.3-meter telescope was constructed by means of an NSF Science Development Program Grant.
