F. Spiral Galaxy with One Long Arm
The system shown on Plate IX obviously has suffered some encounter with other galaxies which, however, cannot be located with certainty at the present time. An exploration of both direct photographs and of the velocity field around the spiral shown will be necessary to retrace the events which have resulted in the long extension of the spiral arm shown on the Plate IX.
