NGC 1087. - This galaxy is listed by
Holmberg (1964)
as being in the
NGC 1068 group and having a distance modulus of
31. The nucleus is
nearly stellar and is the northern end of a "bar" of four bright
objects visible in the
6607 photograph. As noted by
Sandage (1961),
the multiple spiral structure is defined by the dust lanes. The
remarkable asymmetry of the distribution of HII regions gives no
evidence of a spiral pattern.
