NGC 972. - Burbidge et al. (1965b) have published a detailed study of this galaxy and report the detection of strong H throughout the main body. The slit was placed approximately along the major and minor axes and therefore the spectrograms probably did not record the brighter HII regions of the leading arm embedded in the dust lane.
